Overall Thoughts of the show so far

From following the show since season 2, the show has changed a lot. The show use to be aired on the CW network where the characters made more money, now its aired on BET and it’s not the same. The characters’ personalities are no longer the same. To me, the show has lost flavor. The director has tried to put too many things going on in one episode. I find that the storyline is all over the place between the different characters. The characters are now in different stages of their lives. Derwin and Melanie are now married and Melanie is a doctor and president of the Sunbeams. Derwin is now the famous football player. Janay now has Derwin’s child which is named DJ (Derwin Jr). Malik is in rehab and dating a supermodel. Tasha is dating Donte a much younger man. Kelly and Jason are now divorced and Kelly is out of the picture because she realizes she needs help.

How has each character changed and developed?

Malik’s : this season as a whole has changed from being all about himself to actually caring about other people. His attitude has changed since has gone to rehab, it’s as if he has a new lease on life. He now views things from a different point of view.

Derwin and Melanie: are learning to live as a married couple along with coping with the fact that Derwin is the father of Janay’s baby. Melanie is also dealing with not having a actually career and just being a stay at home wife.

Tasha and Donte: Tasha is in denial and trying to come to terms with the fact that Donte is much younger than her, and the fact that Donte wants to date her and make it official in public.

Kelly and Jason: Now that Jason and Kelly are divorced, Jason is co-hosting the show ‘benched’ and living life. While Kelly is busy making her own reality show, and trying to be in the spot light. It seems as though she is craving attention since she no longer has fame as when she was the head of the sunbeam girls group.

Overall I think this season is proving to be more dramatic and life changing for all the characters in the show.  I just hope that when they decide to write the next season, it is actually an hour long or try not to put so much in 30mins.

Has money and fame gotten to their heads?

Melanie and Derwin have both had their ups and downs. They had been together on and off since the first season. They started dating before Derwin became a pro athlete. He signed a rookie contract with the San Diego Sabers. While Melanie had to make a decision to go to med-school at Johns Hopkins in LA where they are now or to go USC in San Diego where he is moving to. She decided to stay with him and move to San Diego.

In one of the episodes of the first season, Melanie went to lunch with one of their old friend from college now Derwin's rival in the game, Trey Wiggs. While out for lunch the paparazzi took pictures of them together and rumors were spreading. Melanie had to call Derwin's image consultant Dion to fix the problem with some images of them together.

At one point in their relationship, Derwin thought Melanie was pregnant and proposed to her live on national television at halftime in one of his games. She said "yes" because she was feeling pressured but later on had doubts because she didn't want to get lost in his "football" world and not accomplish her own dreams. Later on in the season, Malik and Derwin go to a club and he introduces him to Drew Sidora. Derwin ended up driving her home because Malik was out of it. The next day Drew asked Derwin to be in her new video. Things went downhill since then. That was part of the reason leading on to the first break up. Drew and Derwin got closer and they ended up sleeping together. Derwin told Melanie about him and Drew getting closer but lied about them sleeping together when she asked. Not until Derwin brought her to a party, that’s when Melanie found out that they slept together and called it quits. This was their first official break up and the end of season one.

In season 2, Melanie moves on and dates Jerome while Derwin starts dating Janay. During this time Melanie and Derwin had at least one affair. They both realized that they still wanted each other, but at this time Derwin had already gotten Janay pregnant. Finally in season 3, they get back together and deal with Janay’s pregnancy. Later on in the season, they eventually got married and Janay gave birth to his son. Now in season 4, two years later, they are happily married but Melanie questions if DJ is really Derwin’s son, so she does a DNA test.

As you can see, Melanie and Derwin have clearly been through a lot. The only thing I don’t get is why would Melanie question DJ’s DNA two years after he was born, why wasn't the test done before this point. As a woman, if I had my doubts, that would have been first on my to do list, in order to maintain my sanity. I think she only started to question it because he was ruining her picture perfect family and life. From the beginning this was their dream and now they are finally here. I think Melanie feels like Janay is just jealous of what her and Derwin have and taking it out on the son. I believe that now that they made it to the top that they are not remembering how they got there. I predict that they are going to let the money and fame go to their heads to the point where it is going to affect their relationship. What do you think? Have Melanie and Derwin let the fame and fortune get to them?

The Character Malik

In my opinion I think the character Malik in the show “The Game” has the same attitude he had in the first season, the only thing that has changed is the fact that it has gotten worse. I think the factors that contribute to the increase in his attitude is the fact that he is no longer the center of attention. The tables have turned, the Rookie that once used to look up to him is now the center of attention, and the superstar that once use to be in the spotlight has now been placed in the backseat. Now that Malik’s mother is the manager of Derwin, also known as the “Rookie” back in the day, Malik seems to be somewhat of the jealous type because he now realizes that the world does not revolve around him. Not only is Malik’s mother no longer his manager, in addition to this Malik’s right hand man Tee Tee is no longer his right hand man.

I think his biggest problem is that he has never been independent on his own and now that everyone has gone and left him, he has to do everything for himself. I believe this is where he started to get out of control. Now he is even sleeping with the owner’s wife and it is in the out and open. He is bound to get caught soon. He just thinks that everything revolves around him and “the rules” don’t apply to him. But I can bet you that Malik doesn’t know what he got coming. I believe he is going to get fired this season from the team.

What do you think?

Is it morally wrong for one to be in such denial?

The first episode of season 4 was on January 11, 2011. In this comeback episode there was a lot going on, it was two years later. Melanie and Derwin were still together but now live in a mansion instead of their condo. Derwin became famous and is now the franchise player for the Sabers. He also became the face of Nike and their “Boom” campaign. Melanie on the other hand became the new head of the sunbeams since Kelly and Jason got divorced and Janay had a baby boy and named him Derwin Jr. (DJ).

Jason and Kelly are both single since being divorced in the last season. She has her own reality TV show called “Ex-Ballers Wives” demonstrating how hard it was being married to him.  He is filling in as a guest correspondent on a sports network called “Benched”, while he protests against his team to give him better recognition for his 12 years there. Since Jason is doing his protest he hasn’t been to practice (“training camp”). Kelly has also lost her mind and became a shopaholic because all she wants to do is spend as much of Jason’s money as possible.

Tasha is now dating some one else. She is dating a younger guy named Dante, who is a local performer. She is also Derwin’s manager and has other clients that she represents as well. Malik is no longer the Sabre’s #1 player and is having an affair with the wife of the new owner of the Sabre’s. Tee Tee now has his own mobile chicken restaurant and is doing well. He is now dating his former intern, Allison.

In this episode, Melanie is left to give DJ a bath and put him to bed and while in the process of doing this, she gives him a DNA test. The test comes out negative and she has to deal with telling Derwin what she did, but then later on she finds out that it was a mistake and the baby is really his. Derwin also asked Janay if he was the baby’s father and she was stumped that he actually asked her.

While Malik was making out with his boss’s wife at a nightclub, they created some damages and Tee Tee had to come bail him out of trouble again. On another occasion, Malik got drunk and Allison had to drive him home. He ended up sleeping with her. The next morning Tee Tee goes to visit Malik and finds his girl in the hot tub with him. This is where things all went downhill.

I thought this was a lot for one episode. The storyline was everywhere. You basically had to follow every character and their own story. I also don’t like the way Malik is now acting, he became even more self-fish. I hope they have flash back episodes which can explain some of the gaps that we are seeing, like what happened between Tasha and Rick or even Malik’s new ‘I don’t care’ attitude. Overall it was a great first episode. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
